Message from David – May 5, 2017

I’m about to go to Chicago in the next 2 weeks to record in Craig’s state of the art studio to begin doing my tribute to my mentor and father. People may respond that it’s just worship of my male role model, especially as he basically abandoned me and my mother. I truly believe he was the most talented man I’ve ever known. Soooooooo, I’m going to go in and pay tribute to him with “Songs my father taught me”.

Teri and Frank are flying in. As you all know, we record Live! Live! Live! It’s the only authentic way! It’s the way I learned and was taught from 19 years of age!! I truly believe this will be my last recording, and it’s been something I’ve been thinking about for many years.

Happy Trails,
DC

    • I just figured out why our names go blue. If we put in a website address, they turn your name into a link to the website you typed in. I don’t know how they knew when to ask me again for that information, though. Have a good day.

  5. Dear David,

  8. Wow, what wonderful news! Go to Chicago and have the time of your life jamming with your friends, while making an everlasting recording for us fan to treasure. We have been waiting for this recording for a long time, I’m glad it’s now going to happen. It will be even more special now given the circumstances. Long may it remain as one of your greatest memories.

  9. David, the picture you posted is priceless, beautifully expressed, despite, all the problems you and especially what your mom went through, there were times of love there. Yes your dad, had the talent, was handsome which I’m sure he loved to hear back then. And you just go with it, and can’t wait for the songs to be recorded, your voice, your good memory and your talent how its going to go,so be great. Your friends are good friends, therewith you.and for you. I have a sister in Chicago, good time to go, nice weather. Thanks for telling us really good exciting news from your end.

  10. Dear David

I’m excited to hear that you’re going to record “Songs My Father Taught Me”. This is something that is obviously very dear to your heart, to pay tribute to your father. I’m sure he’d be very proud of you and what you have achieved in your career, also for the person that you are. I’m saddened to hear that it will probably be your last recording, you are so talented. I hope you are well, and continue to think about and pray for you. Looking forward to your recording, I’m sure you and your friends will enjoy making it. Enjoy Chicago! I want you to know that from the first time I saw you on the Partridge Family and ever since you’ve always had my heart and that will never change. As I approach my 61st birthday on May 27 I think back about how I felt about you when I was 14 and a half and that remains the same.

Keep well David, and loving you always

  12. Good to hear from you, David.

Just me sharing, but I think it would be really great to share some speaking introductions to the songs you’ll be recording. I’ve heard you laugh at the old P. Family song where they asked you to speak like Elvis on a recorded song, but, I have to say, I loved that part!

    Enjoy seeing everyone.

  13. I give you my prayers David may God keep you and your family in the palm of His hand love always stay strong and with faith Geraldine Melb Australia

  16. DEAREST DAVID ❤
Im so excited to hear you’re getting back into the studio! I think this will be great therapy for you! The pictures I have seen of you and your father, need no words or captions. He loved you ❤ Sometimes people become so consumed with their own careers and successes, they forget to show us they love us. I had a parent like this. Your father was still young and had much to learn, and was taken too soon, but he loved you ❤ I pray for your health and your continued recovery! Be healthy, be happy, you are so loved by many. Keep up the great work and I cannot wait to hear the beautiful tribute to your father! I love you still, I love you forever!

  23. Hi David,
Your Dad is what you take on him, inside your heart.
You consider Jack Cassidy very important in your life.
He was an example to you of a great artist!
And this defined per you, the way of the entertainment world, is not?
Will be a beautiful tribute to him, and will be something very special for you.
So it’s special for us your fans, too.
I hope it will not be your last recording, but if so, will be marvelous and unforgettable, just as you are, to all of us.
    Success dear David!

    With Love,
    Gueeva

  24. Hi Jackson Snipes 😉 I am a Canadian blogger who advocates for raising mental health awareness. I hope you take my words to heart. I hope they give you a little bit of “silver lining” as you go forward. I was born in ’59 and must be the only girl on the planet that did NOT know who David Cassidy was during the 70’s. I say this so that you know I reach out to you simply as someone who cares and can relate closely to the new challenges in your life. While it broke my heart to care for my father during his years of living with dementia (which is VERY different than Alzheimer’s) my dad, on the other hand, still had a life full of light and laughter, fun and adventure. carefree and happy. While dementia stripped him of many cognitive functions, it also allowed him an unexpected freedom. He did not dwell on battling the disease because he wasn’t really cognitively aware of it. My point is this … going forward you will still be a vital and important person to those you love and whom love you. You will still find much to enjoy in your life. Your eyes will still sparkle and your infectious smile will continue to be your gift to those you share it with.

    Happy trails …

  25. Hi David,
It’s great to hear from you and I’m thrilled that you will be recording “Songs My Father Taught Me” with Craig, Teri and Frank. Have a blast!
Hope the recording will be available on CD and not just to download (just not the same!)

    Take care and fondest love,
    Helen xxx

  26. This is a project/creation I have been truly looking forward to. SOOOO glad it’s going to materialize! Go DC! 😀

  27. Thank you David I am sure it will be a lovely Legacy on Behalf of your Great Father and Mother what a wonderful Tribute Looking forward to another Great Accomplishment in your Lifetime keep Safe and Best Wishes it’s so unfortunately that I never got to see any of your Concerts because I am a Fan of yours for Life I thank you for my Teen years that were difficult at times all I had to do was look at my pictures on the wall Smile and Dream and everything was more tolerable believe it or not Again Congratulations on this very important Album dedicating your Beloved Father’s Accomplishment s.

  28. I am truly happy that you are going to record this and appreciate paying tribute to your father. I am looking forward to hearing the songs you have chosen. Best of Luck to you David. I think of you often and hope that you are in good health and mind. Life is short and we need to embrace what we have been blessed with.
    Much Love,
    Sue in Ohio

  29. David,

I’m glad you are going to get that tribute album recorded. It’s been on your to-do list for a while now. It is hard to confront some things from our past and we do tend to put doing unpleasant things off.

I hope that recording this album will be at least somewhat healing to you where your father is concerned. As you are forced to think about that hurtful situation, it may help to try to view it from the viewpoint of a third person looking at it from afar and seeing the big picture.

I can relate to your situation a little bit. My dad abandoned me and my mom for another woman and her family when I was 15. In my case, of course, my dad was not my role model for my sex. But he did sour me on the notion of marriage from the time I caught him cheating on my mom onward. It was an impressionable age.

I’m sad to hear that you won’t be recording after this album. I hope that is not because of the dementia, as I’d hoped you were getting better. Please try the organic coconut oil if you haven’t. It is a cheap fix, so what would you have to lose by trying it out for a month?

As for the most talented man on the planet, I would have to disagree with you because I would say that person has been YOU, my dear David!

I hope you have a great time in Chicago. I visited there once and got to eat at one of the special pizza places there. I rode in a carriage, etc. Well, it impressed me anyway.

    Much love,
    Margaret

    • P.S. A tribute to your father is a wonderful idea, as he was a wonderful actor who also hooked you up with key people who put you onto the path of success. It is obvious that professionalism was instilled in you in both your work ethic and in your stage presence. Videos of you as a young man also show how very polite you had been trained to be. It is very heartwarming to watch. Somebody trained you well in the various aspects! I look forward to the new album!

  30. Hi David, good luck and enjoy your time in the studio. Hope this brings your closer to your father who would be so proud of all you have achieved in your life.
Hugs and kisses from the UK

I strive to make my parents in heaven proud and always look for a way to honor them. This is so perfect for you! I pray we run into each other once again and look forward to hearing your recordings.

  40. I bet your Dad is happy about this, David. I look forward to hearing the recording, and it will be very special bcos it is your last. Thanks for keeping us updated, we were asking after you. Take care of yourself. Thanks for the music and for keeping alive the memory of being a teenager.

  41. it is what is in your soul, your precious talent came from your father, and I thank him for giving you to us, it is sad family problems do bring sadness, but if it is what you feel you must do then do it, I like forward to hearing your new recordings.

  42. David, your Dad would be so very proud of you. He was a very talented man whether it was acting in musicals, comedy or drama movies. He had star quality which is very rare in actors. You yourself are a great musician and artist. From Australia.

  43. nice that you make a memoir cd for your father. But everything you´ve done haste it self
    created because you wanted it.
It is your voice, your style, since kaste prout to be on it
    nothing comes from nothing

  44. Dearest David!
Thank you for the update, the consideration towards us, and your authenticity. Very noble of you to be so open!
We have never met but I had the honor to see your performance in concert back in Sept72. You had an impact in my/our lives and I´ve loved you sincerely as the person you are not the persona you portrayed in PF. The 60s,70s,80s, Man!! what a time to be alive and witness all that great talent!!
I am sure you will pour out your heart into this new project as a tribute, not only to your father, but to your mother as well. I am sure you all sang these very songs with him.
Have fun with your fantastic, highly professional, friends who will work on this with you and help create your masterpiece.
We are here to support you as the Great Artist and Musician that you are.

  45. Ohhh, David, so happy to hear about your new project but why your last recording, sweetheart? I think you couldn´t live without doing what you do the best. Anyway, is your life and your right so whatever you do I will always support you. So looking forward to hearing that beautiful tribute to your Dad, something you have had on your mind for so long. Love this cute pic, you can just see love here.
Please, take care, you are so precious for us all. I love you since forever ♥

  46. Dear David how are you doing. God Bless you. I love you. When i seem you in Bensalem i was so happy . I throw a bear and you pick it up and kiss it and hug it. I was hoping you would keep the bear but you said you have a small bag . No room for the bear. I was sad you did not take the bear. But you kiss the bear and hug it and then you give it back to me and i feel something down my back a good feeling. I always went to meet you . I love see you in person. You are a wonderful man. I wish i could me you again face to face. God Bless you David. I love you always.

  47. Dear David, Hope you have fun putting the music together with the “old gang” and look forward to the end result. Take care of yourself. Love from Susanne, across the time zones in down town Helensburgh Australia. xx

  48. Dear David,
I’m happy to hear that you have plans to make more music, but it feels painful to hear you say that this will be your last CD. I hope you are taking care of yourself. I know that things have been really, really rough for you recently, but if you can find a good psychologist or psychiatrist, you can make it through. You are not only a human being worthy of life and happiness; your musical and acting accomplishments make you an American national treasure! Please, please seek immediate help if you ever feel unworthy of being loved. Think of all the other celebrities who have had severe issues to deal with, and are hanging on OK: Cher, with her transsexual daughter; Michael Buble, struggling to help his little son who is sick with cancer; Celine Dion, who lost two family members at nearly the same time, just to name a few. There are thousands of performers who have had to cope with addiction. I know your father had some serious issues, but just because you are his son doesn’t mean you have to follow a similar destructive path. Declare your independence! In the words of Donald Trump (though I know he’s not your favorite politician): Reclaim your identity! Love, Leihsia

  49. I think I’m gonna love this one! The best recordings in history have been live – whether in studio or in concert. Smart smart smart!

  50. Awesome, David. Looking forward to that!
Can it please come out on CD? I am not good at streaming, downloading and all those “new” things….
I hope you enjoy yourself making this tribute to your dad together with your best musician friends. Wish I could be there!
    Good luck, Linda from Holland.

  51. I’m seeing a possible list of songs to be recorded. They are:

    * The Very Thought of You
    * It Was a Very Good Year
    * Little Things Mean a Lot
    * Cry

How close am I? Lol. We can’t wait, David. Thanks for your years of entertainment.

    Warm wishes,
    Margaret

  52. Thanks for sharing that very special picture of you and your dad. Look forward to more music. Hope you’re doing well. Love you.

  53. Dearest David – I hope you have a great time in Chicago and record that beautiful song. May it give you grace. You are blessed and full of faith. May G-d grant you all that you need. Please keep on taking care of yourself. I pay for you every day. With all my love. I know I love you. Cw Windt

  54. Hello David! This album sounds wonderful! I remember watching you and your Dad on Merv Griffin years ago. You and your Dad sang a beautiful rendition of “Danny Boy”. It was special seeing you both together. Apparently, it made a big impression on me since I remember it to this day. God bless you as you take this memorable journey. Can’t wait to hear it.

    • Robyn …
I wonder if David could get the rights for the audio of his duet with his dad “Danny Boy” from Merv Griffin Enterprises to use on the CD … it would make a nice first song (or maybe final song).

DAVID’s Segment … 1972 – Merv Griffin Episode (w/Jack Cassidy as guest host)
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-txx4UB39Y

        • Wow. With fans knowing the history of the relationship between Jack and David — a powerful audio. Yes, should be included in this recording-in-progress effort in Chicago.

      • That would be wonderful if he could! It was such a beautiful and touching performance and I think it would be special to have that duet on the album.

  55. a lovely pic of you with your dad, reminds me when I cuddled my children when they were young, hope you are well, and look forward to your forthcoming recordings with great enthusiasm.

  56. I am sure your dad is very proud of you David and is looking put for you, and your mother is looking out for you too. I love you David, I hope you are taking good care of yourself and doing what the doctors say to do. Love Norlene

  57. David …

Looking forward to the album. I hope there’ll be one or two songs stripped down to just your voice and a piano and the bare additional musical instrument or two… certain ballads sound so moving that way.
This is not a link to a song that will fit the album theme … its just a sample of a simple vocal+piano … yet very moving arrangement …
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IA-EMX8SzRo

Are you planning any Railroad themed songs … since your dad comes from a long line of LI Railroad men???
    https://harpers.org/blog/2014/06/the-twenty-three-best-train-songs-ever-written-maybe/
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_train_songs

You mentioned the LONG Railroad lineage on your dad’s side of the family at your live concert and when I looked it up online after the concert I found out your dad had written a play with a RR theme…
“Playwright Jack Cassidy has written a play, ‘A Waltz for Willie Ryan’, which he describes as a comedy drama about railroad men set prior to Pearl Harbor”

Much love … Joanne (from NY State)

I’ll end with a quote by Jack Cassidy…
    “Water is humbling.
The ocean is a wonderful contradiction of
    ultimate peace and overwhelming power.”

  58. On facebook,I just saw David sing in the Jerry Lewis Special one of his songs his father taught him at seven years old. I could play that song over and over ,David yes I really agree and see now why you are going to record the songs you learned from your dad. One is not enough. Us fans are excited and have something special to look forward to when you ate done recording. Hi Felicia, I sent you a letter yesterday, explaining the latest, your letter arrived, I will open on Friday Thxs. David’s voice will really be special, when those special songs are recorded. I’m taken back, when singers were singers and you are one of them David. You blessed my era, so glad I got to enjoy all your singing. I loved your concerts, and when I saw you in theatre, you are one fine polished actor with a voice. Enjoy Chicago, and take very good care of yourself.

  59. Hi David, I”m very happy that you’re recording again. I am especially happy about this tribute to your beloved Dad. I was just taken aback at the thought that you’ve said it will be your last recording. I pray that it won’t be your last anything. Lennon used to say, ‘where there’s life, there is hope’. Never give up hope, never give up on your dreams. <3 love you. x

  60. David Cassidy you are very special. You have a
gift to make people happy. I am a forever fan!
Thank you for keeping your website open.
Where us fans can express ourselves! Hi Denice!
I received your letter on May 11th. I mailed you
a letter yesterday. You should get it sometime
next week. Good luck with the relatives from
Chicago. I wish you the best visit possible!

  61. Dear David,

Hello again just wanted you to know how much I love you and want you to hang in there ….

    Love you babe…. Christine

  62. I’m glad David is going to Chicago, the music he his going to record will be a new favorite, with David’s good memory of his Dad. I do think at that time he taught David those songs, there was alot of love , the picture says it. We all know now, that adults are human and make mistakes, and to this day, I remember my parents, the problems start out small, and they get bigger and bigger, and as a kid you just don’t understand. Those songs with your dad was a good memory. Record those songs as a celebration,of love and happiness that is in your heart David. And hi Felicia, my sister had to cancel the visit and is not coming from Chicago. I’m still meeting up with the one here with the twins. I been to Chicago many times, I can’t go now, I may go end summer. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, and to all the moms in the heavens above. To all moms, who care for all the pets we have. Bless you David, you made your mom happy, and she had the best son ever. What a gift to have someone as special as you who made our world a happy place. And you put us in a happy place. Have a really great time in Chicago.

  63. Just took a moment ,in my insane day , to listen to the Merv Griffin interview when Jack Cassidy was host and David was a Guest at 21 years old. David that must have been the interview that put the pressure on, you sound calm in your voice, professional, how did you do it, went perfect. You were so mature for your age back than. When you sang Danny Boy, you can really hear your sound in your voice that is so different from other voices. God gave you a gift. Now it getting more exciting to your new recordings, I agree with your other fans, will Danny Boy be included. Your fans have great ideas. We followed your journey, and the Merv Griffin show with your dad as host and you guest , I don’t know where I was but in 1972; I missed it, and I bet you looked so good in that interview. You aced it, what a memory.

  64. Very nice message Felicia, got your Calif. letter, I sent you a surprise, mailed today. Your messages to David are filled with love, you a a good person and a true David Cassidy, fan.

  65. Thanks for the great birthday gift DAVID! You posted this on my birthday!! <3

Wishing you lots of Love, Peace & Happiness and you work on this recording!

Love & Prayers, Trish Walsh xo <3 🙂

  66. Best wishes for you my friend, I hope your recording goes as you have dreamed.
I will be waiting, as all your fans will be, for its release. It will be so nice to hear you again. Wish I could be there to cheer you on as I did in England and in Benedorm. But I’m in Canada now and can’t make it to Chicago.
Good luck David and HT to you, ND

  67. Good luck with your live recordings in Chicago, David!

I am sure you will do just fine.

You are as blesssed with talent as can be.

Thank you so much for keeping us updated on your activities and on how you are doing!

(Parents are not perfect and neither are we…)

    Love always!

  68. Hi Denice!
I received your photo and cheer up note today
May 18th. I am feeling better. I am doing better.
My philosophy is nothing changes if nobody
changes. I have to change. I only can control
myself. I can not control anybody else! So I have
to walk in forgiveness, and show mercy and
compassion to the person who has hurt me.
Hurt people hurt people! I am going out to
dinner with my friend Laura tonight. Life is
too short to sweat the small stuff. Thank you
for being such a supportive friend. It has been
3 weeks since I got back from California, and I
am so glad to be back home. Thank you for
understanding me. I can move forward now.

  69. Dear David,

  71. Hi Denice!
You wrote 7 post. I wrote 6. Boy, do we care
about and love David Cassidy! We like being
friends. I cherish our friendship. You have such
a way with words. I love to read your post. I
am amazed and in awe of the people who run
this website. They are so tolerant of the fans.
Denice I think we are the most popular fans
on this website. Imagine this is a world wide
website. There are like 92 comments about
David’s , May 5th message that he will be
going to Chicago in 2 weeks. Which is actually
today May 19th. As you always say David,
to quote you “Happy Trails” !

  72. David, I wish you well in whatever you do from now on. I wish I could be there to see you perform. I will always be your fan. May God bless you and always know your fans love you.

  73. Hi Felicia, and you also David, yes Felicia we do care for David, all the fans are just awaiting David’s new posts to us, knowing he his very busy, as David has always been throughout his life, it is so nice for his website, like you said Felicia we can express ourselves, and I will always be a David Cassidy fan, and Felicia I will always be your friend. Felicia all the birthday greetings David got would be one largest birthday cards. David is a unusual star, because he always cared for his fans and appreciated us. And all his talent wrapped in that special man. Felicia imagine if we became friends many years ago, bet we would of went to David’s show or shows and lived it up , and to this day, we still have David Cassidy in the studio, we fans are so lucky for that. David you are amazing in all you have done. Your accomplishments are hard to beat. On that note ENJOY recording.

  74. David,

I hope you are having a fantastic time up there in Chicago. I look forward to hearing from you about your trip and your new album.

    • David,
I just ran across another piece of health-related information that might interest you. There is an herb named Kudzu that grows like an aggressive vine and has little flowers on it. It is used to clean the body of toxins, alcohol, etc. and lowers one’s desire for alcohol! Instead of managing it, there appears to be a way to make the matter just go away! All parts of the plant can be consumed.

      Peace

  75. David,
I am so excited that you will honoring you father in this way. I was a child of the 50s’ and thought – and still do – that Jack Cassidy was the most attractive and talented man to walk the planet. What a combination. I was always disappointed that his wonderful personality was never fully showcased on film or television. With the age of the internet, many of his appearances and performances are available to stream and I find myself going back time and time again to see Jack. I can only imagine the spirited and witty conversations shared around a dinner table. He always reminded me of an angel with sin on his mind. Thank you my dear friend for saving some of your memories on vinyl – do they even still use that phrase – for the world. As one who on occasion forgets how to spell, I wish you peace in your travels. Know that you are loved – always!

  76. David,
I’m sure your father was always proud of you even if he may not have showed it or said it. You are a good son. Good luck with the recording in Chicago. By the way, I was at the Detroit Tigers game last week and in between one of the innings they do the “Kiss Cam” and your song, I think I Love You, was being played during the clips of fans kissing. Never get tired of hearing it and thought of you and hope you are doing well. Your fans are always behind you you David!!! And I am one of them!

  77. Hi David,
Have fun making this recording! Looking forward to hearing it. Wishing you light, love and joy, Ellen

  78. Dear David,

Counting the days till we hear from you again from your home town in the Big Apple to the Windy City…always thinking of you David, take it easy babe.

    Love You, Christine

  79. Dear David I have listened to you songs since I was 6 now I’m 50 and just bought same songs I listened to then. Nothing sounds like that, unbelievable fun songs. I live in Chicage you need somewhere to stay you are welcome, that’s what we do for family. Good luck with your recording. If you are anything like your songs wish we could have meet, because they always made me feel good.

  80. Hi David,
I love the idea for the new album… Nothing wrong with making peace with the past, and acknowledging the best in someone. I can’t wait to hear it… I hope you release it as a “real” album, something tangible and not just for download… I’, still kind of old fashioned that way. I don’t have any music downloaded, but I continue to buy hard copies. And I’m so glad that vinyl albums are making a comeback!!! Please, Please, Please release this new album as a “real” album!!!!!
Have fun with it, with the recording and with honoring the memories!
Although some fans have asked “Why end messages with Happy Trails?” I knew the reference from the very beginning… Roy Rogers & Dale Evans, Trigger & Buttermilk (I think that’s right… I’m getting older too… LOL)

    Soooooo…….

Who cares about the clouds when we’re together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
    Happy trails to you,
    Until we meet again!

    Love Always,

    Shirley V.

  89. I was able to see your dad Jack Cassidy up and in person
In Dallas at the Venetian room at the Fairmont.
It was the tour with him and Shirley. They found out
It was my birthday and stopped the show and asked me to
Stand up and wished me a happy birthday.
They then sang happy birthday, and dedicated the show to
    Me. Best night ever.
I stayed in contact with Shirley. I was so sad when I heard
    That your dad had passed.
I understand your feelings, I pretty much had the same
Background. Thank the lord I had a strong mother as I am sure
U had. Hang in there David, we r all here for you!
Remember Hope, love, and laughter is the best thing.
I will end this note to u as u end your letters to your fans.
    Happy Trails my friend,
    Lyn
