PATRIOTIC PANTIES FOR DAVID

Like many young girls, I was a fan of David's in the 1970's. After getting married and having children I lost touch with his career. Then in the summer of 1997, I went to Las Vegas with some friends and family. David was appearing in EFX and "BAM!" I was "hooked." I "fell in love" with him all over again. I went to see him several times while in Vegas, both for EFX and AT THE COPA. I've also gone to see him in concert in Laughlin and here in San Diego.
I have a good friend that grows orchids for a living and she often makes me lei's for special occasions. I decided to have her make a lei that I could give to David when I went to see him. He always seemed to really like them. However orchids require a lot of special care. They can't get too hot or crushed. I always had to "baby them" when going to see David.

I was soooo happy and excited when I heard David was going to be at the "San Diego County Fair" which is at the Del Mar Race Track. How fabulous! Our family always picks a day to go together to the fair. So this year it was the day of David's concert. However, there was no way I could care for a flower lei all day long and make last until the concert in the evening. Especially since the weather had now gotten warmer.

I was listening to radio station KGB (San Diego's Classic Rock) and they did an interview with David to help promote his concert at the fair. David mentioned how women now through panties instead of love beads and puka shells up to him. He said it was a "Good thing" and that he "loved it." So I decided to try to do something special. Since I couldn't take a flower lei to David, I'd make one out of sexy undies! I decided to have a "Patriotic - Red, White and Blue" theme since the 4th of July was coming up soon.

You got priority seating and parking if you ordered the "Surf Club Dinner Package." My friends Kathy, Becky, Cat and myself ordered our dinner packages together. So I took my "Patriotic Undie Lei" and met them for dinner around 6:00 p.m. We all mentioned what a lovely evening it was since we were a bit worried the previous week with the rain. We were so happy it was such a beautiful night!
When we went down to our seats, we were amazed at the two large gates in front of us and then the SUPER HIGH stage. Security guards were placed in front as well. The DJ "Mason in the Morning" from KOOL, (San Diego's Oldies Station) was there. He mentioned that it's the ONLY radio station in San Diego that actually plays PF/DC songs. Which is true! He introduced some local beauty queens and then "OUR DAVID!"

David came out singing "Heartbeat." He was in a fabulous mood! The band and sound was excellent! The venue was mostly full and the audience rocked out during rockers like Deep Purple's "Hush" and the Stone's "Gimme' Shelter." Everyone stood up to dance to "I Saw Her Standing There." David mentioned how The Beatles influenced him to first pick up a guitar and said, "If you can't rock for this - you can't rock for anything!" The next day DJ Mason mentioned how David's band had the most interesting song transitions he'd ever heard! He said he went from THIS - playing some of "Hush" to THIS - and then he played "Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted." I also heard someone on a morning news station mention his "cool transitions" as well.

David said what a lovely venue this was and how he'd been here many times before. Not as a performer but as a horse breeder. We were a bit surprised when at one point he said "What about this weather? I thought it was suppose to me summer." Maybe he was cold? We thought he'd be even warmer on stage with the lights but who knows? He is quite a bit thinner than the rest of us;)

After some time, I got up my nerve and with the urging of my friends, I threw the Patriotic Undie Lei with all my might. I was afraid it wouldn't make up so high. Luckily, it landed on top of one of the center speakers. David looked over at it a few times while singing before going over to pick it up. He was very "playful" with it. He put it up to him and said "Oh, I'll wear it every night."

Then in a "gay" voice and manner "What do you think - in a chartreuse, do you think?" At one point he even said, "Oh, I see - it's a HAT!" Then put it on his head. Everyone was cracking up. Later he went over to it again and made some more funny comments.

Then he said, "Well, what do you think. Who ever did this was pretty creative, don't you think?!" I really pleased when my friends later told me that my lei and the way David fooled around with it helped really make the concert special.

David was really energetic and was constantly trying, despite the high stage, to "connect" with the audience. He playfully posed for photos while sitting on the edge of the stage for fans who came up to snap a picture or two. Stretching out his hands to fans and sometimes pointing to them.

During "I Think I Love You" he was waving his arms towards him - urging the fans to come up closer. However, the guards were a bit "too protective" as when we stood up and came forward a bit, they asked us to stand back. We were like "You've GOT to be kidding!" I mean, you'd have to be an Olympic Athlete to jump over the two tall gates and some how poll-volt up onto the 6 foot stage! We were happy they weren't letting other fans from the "free section" come and stand in front of us, but you know there is a good "middle ground" here.

David left after ITILY but came back to a rousing encore to sing the classic Bob Seiger tuen "Hollywood Nights."

Now we're all looking forward to seeing David at the new and wonderful Pala Casino. Since we've all seen him several times now, we're really hopeful that David will add some new songs from his upcoming CD.

After the concert, I went to buy some cinnamon rolls to take home for the family. Cat was standing to the side near a counter and a man saw her PF T-shirt. He came up to tell her how it was the BEST concert he'd seen at the fair so far. He was with his wife and apparently they'd gone to see several shows before this one. So that's quite a compliment! So if you get a chance, - take your husband, boyfriend, family & friends to go see David LIVE!
