The Bradford PA show

September 30, 2006
Bradford Creative Center. Bradford, PA

Going to see David is always an adventure LOL, but this one was a doozie!!! I left home at 3:30 a.m. & headed for the airport for my 6 a.m. flight, then "shuffled off to Buffalo." Well actually, to Chicago, THEN Buffalo! So I arrived in Buffalo NY around 1:45 and then headed to Bradford, PA.

INTERESTING DRIVE! It was 70 miles but it took me almost 3 hours to get there, because:
(1) "Highway 219" was rather rural, with many turns at unlikely places, such as "turn left at County Road 47"
(2) There was construction for over 25 miles, with cones blocking all but one lane on each side
(3) It was raining
(4) I was using a Mapquest and I was by myself! It's hard to read and drive.

When I finally got to Bradford, the exit to my hotel was CLOSED! I had to detour all the way to the other end of town and then follow the detour signs, which of course I couldn't find, and I got all lost (what's new!). Well I think there's only two hotels in Bradford, so I just started looking for the Comfort Inn. I found it finally. Joyce was already there. We decided we'd leave for the show at 7:00.

Our seats were 2nd row, very left side, which were quite good, as the front row was inches from the stage, so we were extremely close. Someone that worked for the theatre came out to introduce David. As this man was talking, the band came out. But they didn't play their usual intro music. The man said "here he is, David Cassidy" and David just walked out with no music playing. We all went wild. The music to HEARTBEAT started.

Hey, who's that? Matt wasn't the guitarist. It was someone else, a rather cute guy with really long hair in a ponytail. Later David introduced him as Jim Beck (I think). After the show we asked Terri if Matt was "gone" and she said no, he just had to miss two shows due to other commitments. I liked Jim and he did a good job.

David was talkative. Well that's an understatement LOL. He talked more than I've EVER seen him talk before. He just wanted to talk! Most of the time, he instigated the conversation too. He looked at girls in the audience and found reasons to comment. He asked some to come up and show their shirts. One girl was rather young but had a very busty tank top and he asked her to stand up and show us. Then he asked who she came with, and she said her friend and her mom. The girl wanted David to sign her tank top. David looked at the mom and asked if that would be OK. The mom said sure. David acted shy, like he didn't know WHERE he should sign. Then he went back to his stool and thanked the mom for giving him a thrill!

The band left the stage and David grabbed his guitar for the acoustic songs. After 2 songs, he seemed a little confused on what was next. There was no set list anywhere. He looked to the side of the stage and said "what's supposed to be next?" Someone told him (I couldn't hear it) and he said "no I just sang that." So..he thought a moment, and then said "well we're going to do something a little different here, we're going to take a little intermission, because, quite frankly, I have to pee."

And they took a 10-minute break! When he came back, he said "told you I'd be back in 10 minutes" and they continued with Lyin to Myself.

I took something for David to sign (I always do, you never know!).it was one of those greeting cards that are sold at Virgin Records in UK (thank you Sheila!). I will scan it for you all. While David was singing Could It Be Forever, I waited until he came to our side, and then I waved it in the air. He looked at it and did the "come here" thing with his finger. I bolted up there! He bent down and signed his name, then said "what's your name?" and I about DIED, and I said Carol, and he wrote To Carol, Hi, David Cassidy. Then I kissed his cheek and I guess I went back to my seat, I don't remember!

To Carol, Hi David Cassidy

Because Joyce and I weren't really planning on going to this show, and it happened at the last minute, she didn't have a lei. But when David saw her, I think he assumed she did. He walked to her and said "I need to get lei'd now" but she didn't have one, so he hugged and kissed her, and said "Mahalo." The audience was probably wondering what he was talking about!

The painting can be seen on stage.

One fan had painted a huge picture of David, and waited patiently until David acknowledged her, and then handed it up to the stage. David was overwhelmed by it (it was VERY good!) but commented that he wondered how it would fit into his suitcase. He asked the girl if it would be OK for him to sign it and then give it to a charity, and she said sure. I took a picture of it and I'll send it on when I develop it. (Sorry Cheryl, I only took a few, he always looks the same!)

There was no encore but David had spent a LOT of time chatting with everybody. He thanked the community for his gift, a "really cool" Zippo lighter. The factory that makes Zippo is in Bradford.

After the show we chatted a bit in the lobby with Nancy and Ann, and the couple that were seated in front of us. That was Gabrielle, who just joined our chatlist today. I'm sure she won't mind my saying that she loved the show!

Afterwards it was POURING rain, so by the time Joyce and I got to the car (remember it's a zillion miles away), we were really lovely LOL. So we had to take showers and get re-dressed, because we had to leave for the airport at 2:00 a.m.! We both had 6 a.m. flights and the drive was not-so-nice, so we never even slept.

I was WAY TIRED when I finally arrived back in Denver, but oh my, it was SO WORTH IT!!!

Ready for the next show!!!!

Love Carol
