Meeting David Cassidy Part 2

February 24, 2007

Count Basie Theatre. Red Bank, NJ.

Saturday afternoon my husband and I arrived in Red Bank for the second David Cassidy concert. It was a neat older town. Ice storms had just been through the area, so lots of trees and limbs were down. The concert was at 8:00 P.M. We left at 6:30 so we could find the place and get parking, because this was a downtown show.

We found the place with no problems. Had to park and walk a few blocks in the cold, but I did not care. As we got to the theatre, there was David's name up on the sign. It was not sold out on the sign, but was full by the time the concert started. The theatre held 1500 plus people. So this was fuller than most concerts. I knew ahead of time I was going to get a DC autograph at this show. I had sent a picture to be signed. I asked for the person who was taking care of this for me so I could get my picture. This person was not there yet and I had to wait. So my husband and I waited inside for awhile. We then checked again with security and the person I needed was back. Security called him and he came out to meet me. The picture that I was to get signed had not arrived in the mail yet from me.

He said no, sorry, and that he was going to get me in to Meet David anyway. I knew that might happen but was not sure. I was just thrilled. My husband could not believe what I had worked out! He got our back stage passes and let us in. Only 6 people got to go back stage to meet DC. My husband and I were 2 of them. When we got into the room, the band members were there waiting to go out. There was a big screen TV with ESPN on. Big couches and snacks for them to eat. I took off my coat and set it down. Then David came in. We all screamed! He was in a great mood. happy to see us all. he talked to someone from the group of 4, then turned to me. I said my name was Autumn and I came all the way from Iowa just to see you. He asked if we were all together and I said no. He took a couple pics with this group and then it was my turn. He said to come on over here honey and lets do this.

We put our arm around each other for a picture. He said we need to do something special. He took my hand and put his arm around me and started to Dance with me! He said it was like going to Prom! He was really having fun with me!! ME!! My husband got a few more pictures. I told David, that I was the one from the last night's show in Sewell, that had the Partridge Family shirt on and you turned me around for the crowd to see with your arm around me. He remembered me and the event. He thanked me for letting him do that. I was glad to do it and would have done just about anything for him.

He had to go and we said our goodbyes. I wanted to say and ask him some things, but when you get in there with him you forget. I was just in awe, frozen, couldn't believe he was there and I was there, together in the same room for a few minutes. It was incredible. He made me feel like a queen! I thanked the person that helped me to get in to meet DC and took a picture with him. It was time for the show, so my husband and I headed back to the concert. The theatre was being redone inside. Just beautiful. I had second row seats on the aisle. I saw a few of David's other regular fans there too. A couple of ladies behind me were from Europe, Netherlands or England, not sure. It was a packed house. It was show time! He came out in his white shirt and black pants as usual. He later brought out another white shirt and said he did actually change shirts and did not wear the very same one all the time like people thought. He said at the end of the show he was going to throw us the shirt, but he never ended up doing that. He pretty much sang the same songs from the concert the night before. Fans started to bring things up to the stage to be signed early on, and he announced right away, he was there to sing, not an autograph show. When he sat down with just his guitar, to sing by himself, he had to repeatedly ask the crowd to be quiet and just listen to him talk and sing his own way by himself.

During the show a little boy brought David some candy. David took him on stage and talked to him. His birthday was the same as David's. He kissed the boy and gave him back to his mom. Another fan brought up the old DC beach towel. He held that up and talked about it. Another fan had the playbill book from Blood brothers and he talked about that. The woman from the night before who said it was her birthday was there and said it was her birthday again. He talked to her and said it is your birthday everyday you see me isn't it? I touched him a few times throughout the concert. I touched his leg and his shoes. Near the end people came up to touch him and brought things to be signed. he was right in front of me and decided to sign a couple things. He asked for a pen... I had one ready in my pocket and gave it to him. I held the items he signed so he could talk/sign while signing.

It was fun helping him and I am retiring the pen too! LOL! After the intermission, (this was earlier) he changed his shirt to a black one. He left after singing I Think I Love you. Thanked his fans for coming etc. It was not over. He came out for a one song encore. He had his street clothes on, a camel colored fleece jacket and his black pants. He talked about his Dad and how he liked the song CRY. He dedicated the song to him. You could tell he was very nostalgic and almost in tears. He sang his heart out, fighting to not cry himself. He thanked everyone and left for good. After the show, my husband and I went around the corner to a Italian restaurant.

A few minutes after we were there, David's band members came in and sat at the table next to us. I wanted to talk to them, but my hubby said to not interrupt their dinner. We left and outside I ran into the person who got me in and thanked him again for what he did for me. I had the night of my life!
