Concert Review

Turning Stone Resort & Casino, Verona, NY

March 3, 2011

I sit here after our recent concert in a daze. This was the best of the DC concerts. keep reading to find out why. I had ordered my tickets the second they want on sale in October 2010 for the March 2011 Turning Stone concert. We got great seats, second row at a table against the stage a little to the right. Thanks to fellow DC fans Jane and Jan for giving us the secrets to getting the best seats!

Time flies by and it was time to head out. I had planned on picking my daughter up right from school but she said she couldn't do that as she had to fix her hair and makeup. This is my 13 year old daughter getting all beautified for DC !!! So instead of leaving at 3:30, she was finally ready to go at 5:45pm. Ok not going to get to see the sound check . not going to be able to stop to get any coffee or doughnuts. Oh well.

So we are driving in the dark but no rain or snow so that is good. We have some DC music on and some pop music on. We sang at the top of our lungs , off key and laughing. It was wonderful! Little does DC know that he is bringing together a teenager and her mom. It was pure joy.

We get to the site and go right to the ticket office. They hand me the tickets, OMG I might pass out. Cara doesn't know that we are in the second row. We go in to the showroom and they bring us down to the front. We had second row seats on the right side of the stage. We sit down and introduce ourselves to the other fans there. One of the UK fans looks at Cara and says " She looks terrified. " Cara admits she is nervous to be that close to the stage.

Before you know it, Teri introduces David. He starts with C'mon Get Happy. He then does Crossroads. Next is Point Me, I love that song. It is like traveling in time . I am a little kid watching the Partridge family episode with the runaway girl.

At one point, while David is doing an acoustic song, Teri is on the side of the stage taking photos. The young lady in front of me is a fan. She said she is 25 years old, and she thinks he is hot. She was so cute. She sat with her head in her hands staring at him with this look of happiness. I hope that Teri got a photo of her. She was so sweet.

He next does Echo Valley, during this song he did his usual request for a phone. The woman sitting directly in front of Cara gave DC her phone. I reached out and he touched my hand. OMG my first hand hold! He continued down the rest of the front tables. As he was coming back towards us, Cara said Mom I want him to touch my hand. I said you have to reach out. He handed the phone back to the woman sitting in front of Cara. Cara reached out to him. He held her hand and he looked at her. As we were close to the stage, I don't think he could see how young she was with the bright lights behind him until he was close to her. The music continued while he said to Cara "Stand up sweetie." Cara stood up , she later said she thought she might fall she was so nervous. He then asked her "how old are you? " It took her a few seconds to remember how old she was, then she said "13." He kept holding her hand and said to her "You have no idea who I am do you? " She just stared at him like a deer in headlights. She didn't say anything for 10 seconds or so (which is an eternity in the middle of a song). I jumped in and said "She knows you and your music. " He asked her "you know who I am? " She said yes. He asked her "You like my music ? " She said yes . She was thrilled beyond belief. I tried to get a picture during this conversation but he was too close. I guess that was a good problem. He let go of her hand and then continued the song. I am not sure he knows how that small kindness has made my 13 year old a fan forever !!!

Next he sang Summer Days. One of the other ladies at our table stood and held on to DC . He asked her not to pull him and she held on until her husband could get a picture. Cara decided she wanted a photo with DC too. Cara didn't get that picture, maybe next time.

He sang I'll Meet you halfway, I love that song more than all the rest. It is so poignant. Next came Hush, then Hide Your Love Away with chorus by the audience. DC said that we were the best audience to ever sing along with him. Yes, I know we were. LOL . Ain't No Sunshine then Brass in Pocket with Teri singing and David on drums. He really seemed to enjoy playing the drums.

He then dedicated Cherish to the audience of fans who have supported him for over 40 years. After Cherish, he went right into band introductions with solos by each band member. You forget how fantastic these musicians are until they start playing their solos. AMAZING. Cara continued to sing along with all of the songs including I Can Feel Your Heartbeat , I Woke Up In Love This Morning , and then sadly ITILY. His usual closing song. Once again it was over too quickly. As we went to the car to head home that night, Cara decided that for her next DC concert she wanted those exact same seats, second row table four. I guess we are going to another concert.

Cara was on cloud nine the whole way home. I called her David's girlfriend. The next day she woke up she said she was still in shock. She couldn't believe DC spoke to her. She said she thought she would fall down when he asked her to stand and she wasn't sure how old she was when he asked. She had to think about it! She kept saying I am special mom as he spoke to me.

One small gesture of appreciation and DC has a fan for life. THANK YOU DAVID, YOU MADE A YOUNG GIRL VERY HAPPY!
