David Cassidy Back on Tour Bus After 15 Years

David Cassidy is returning to his '70s roots--in '90s style: "I went through all the things I'd recorded, like an old suit you haven't put on in 15 years trying to see if it can be tailored."

After some musical nipping and tucking, Cassidy, the teen heartthrob and star of "The Partridge Family" TV series, is hitting the concert circuit again, for the first time in more than 15 years.

During his 35-city tour, including a stop tonight at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, Cassidy performs updated versions of tunes like his 1970 No. 1 hit "I Think I Love You," along with new material.

"I sing a lot of those songs now from a different perspective," says Cassidy, who last year had a Top 20 hit in "Lyin' to Myself." "I always said I won't go out and be an oldies act."

Cassidy, now 41, looks back on his years as a teen idol with the wisdom gained over time--and 3 1/2 years of psychoanalysis.

"My whole perspective has changed," he says. "I have a sense of humor about having such an impact on a whole generation of people. And I never ended up being a tragic figure. I never ended up being somebody in an oldies club somewhere."

David Cassidy performs tonight at 8 at the Coach House, 33157 Camino Capistrano, San Juan Capistrano. Tickets: $23.50. Information: (714) 496-8930.
