David Cassidy leaves Schodack Town Court after a DUI hearing on Sept. 3, 2014.

Longtime members of David Cassidy’s band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 14) at Putnam Place, 63 Putnam St., Saratoga Springs, in a concert that will benefit the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, a charity close to the former teen idol’s heart.

Cassidy, who died last November at age 67, was a singer and star of “The Partridge Family” TV show. At the height of his popularity, Cassidy — who spent many summers as a regular at Saratoga Race Course —commanded a rabid fan base that drew comparisons to those of Elvis Presley and the Beatles.

He acknowledged a struggle with alcohol in his later years and found himself in the news for his tumultuous personal life, including drunken-driving charges — locally in Schodack — and a hit-and-run charge. His driver’s license was suspended, and he was sentenced to take alcohol-education courses.

The TRF is the largest equine sanctuary in the world devoted to the rescue, retirement, and retraining of retired race horses.

Thoroughbred trainer Gary Contessa, a friend of Cassidy’s, will perform with the band. Tickets are $50. For more, visit 983try.iheart.com.
