The Partridge Family - Season 1, Episode 11 (11)

Title: This Is My Song

First aired: December 4, 1970

Synopsis:

It is a quiet evening at the Partridges’ living room; Shirley is reading, Laurie and Danny are watching TV and their manager, Reuben Kincaid, has fallen to sleep in an armchair. Danny is very impressed by the film, Moulin Rouge, and its soundtrack. When Keith returns home Reuben asks him about the new song Keith was to write. The recording is in 10 days, and Keith has no ideas for a new song, he is having ‘a dry spell’.

Danny offers to write something, he feels he has a potential to be a songwriter. He is offended that no one believes in his ability and he is determined to show his family and Reuben that he is able to write a good song. But the songs he presents are just rewritten movie themes.

Finally, Keith has an idea for a song. He works half the night in his bedroom, but has no idea that Danny, while sleeping, hears him playing the guitar. The wall between their bedrooms lets all the sounds through. Next morning after returning from early jogging, Keith learns that the whole family loves the song Danny has written. But it’s exactly the same song Keith has written himself that night, and they start to quarrel about who is the real author. The atmosphere in the house becomes unbearable.

When Shirley is at Keith’s bedroom, she hears Danny and Chris fighting in their room. She has an idea and asks Keith to write the worst song in the world and play it when Danny falls asleep. The plan works perfectly. The next day Danny is very sad because his new song is so awful. Keith plays it for him and Danny realises that Keith is the one who has written both those songs. Danny is upset but when The Partridge Family plays a concert, Keith tells the audience that because of Danny’s collaboration, his song is much better.
