The Partridge Family - Season 1, Episode 25 (25)

Title: A Knight In Shining Armor

First aired: March 19, 1971

Synopsis:

Someone steals a bottle of milk from outside the Partridges’ front door. Later Shirley, the kids, and Reuben, who spends the night in the Partridges’ living room, awaken to the sounds of music. Someone is playing, very loudly, in the family’s garage. There they find a very handsome, unusual housebreaker. It’s a talented composer, Bobby Conway. He wanted to record and leave a demo for the family, but they have returned home earlier than he expected.

Keith is very impressed that Bobby is a multi-instrumentalist. It’s difficult not to like Bobby and they invite him for breakfast. They would love to play Bobby’s songs, however he only writes music, he can’t write lyrics. Danny says that about six weeks ago, someone called Lionel Poindexter sent them a shoebox full of poems, with a short note written in a purple crayon, asking the Partridge Family to use the poems and put them to music. They are really great and Shirley invites Bobby to go with the family on their bus and meet with Lionel.

Shirley, Bobby and Keith go to Lionel's flat. Lionel is in, but he is very eccentric and what’s more he is dressed as a knight in full suit armor. He explains that he has a job, handing out leaflets on the street. He recognises the shoebox and his poems and says it was probably his girlfriend who sent it. Shirley invites him, in the evening, to the hotel the family stays in, to listen to Bobby’s music. When Lionel comes, Bobby and Keith play the music composed by Bobby. Lionel says he is tone deaf, but he likes the melody very much and he wants to write lyrics for it. Lionel is very happy when he is told that he will earn money for his work, and he asks if anyone knows how much a swimming pool costs .

When Bobby visits him the next day, Lionel can’t remember when he’s left a sheet of paper with written lyrics. Bobby proposes they should visit places where Lionel could have left it, and they go to St Michael Orphanage, because Lionel was there in the morning. At the Orphanage some kids ask Bobby if he is Lionel's friend. They show him the orphanage’s playground, every single thing was bought by Lionel. That was the reason he was working so much. Lionel finds his lyrics at the sandpit. He explains that he grew up in this place and wants to do something for the kids.

Bobby reads the lyrics and loves it. He asks Lionel if he can pay half for the pool. In the evening The Partridge Family plays the new song at the concert, and next day new partners, Bobby and Lionel leave for Los Angeles.
