The Partridge Family - Season 1, Episode 4

Title: See Here, Private Partridge

First aired: October 16, 1970

Synopsis:

The family are working on the release of their first album. As they prepare to leave on the bus, Danny shares his latest concerns with Shirley. He feels the album needs a promotional gimmick to ensure successful sales, but ultimately Danny feels he’s too often ignored and not given enough respect especially in his field of interest - the business of making money. He is upset at being treated like a 10 year old, which is his actual age! Shirley encourages Danny to be less concerned with business affairs.

A letter arrives for Danny just as the family is leaving on the bus. Strangely, it is from the US Government. Danny has been drafted! Rueben declares it must be a mistake and not to worry, he will sort it out, so the family continue on their way to the recording studio. Danny imagines himself in the army, gaining the respect and recognition he yearns for.

Rueben arrives with bad news. He cannot get Danny out of the army recruitment process no matter how hard he tries. He is repeatedly told, ‘the computer does not make mistakes.

Frustrated, Shirley takes Danny’s birth certificate to the recruitment centre, yet her problem is passed from corporal to captain with still no resolution.

At her wit’s end, Shirley takes Danny along so he can participate in the recruitment process. After a production line of tests, Danny is ready to be sworn in. At the last moment, those in charge realise they have a child on their hands and Danny is sent back out the door to his awaiting mother!

Shirley is relieved the error has finally been rectified. Daniel Partridge is only 10 years old and cannot be recruited. Danny, however, claims the recruitment rejection was due to being too short!

Danny reflects on the experience with Shirley, stating that it has made him wise beyond his years.

Upon viewing the ‘hot off the press’ first partridge album, Danny surprisingly agrees with Reuben’s opinion about the album cover, thus demonstrating Danny’s newly acquired maturity and his continued quest for respect.
