The Partridge Family - Season 1, Episode 6 (6)

Title: Love at First Slight

First aired: October 30, 1970

Synopsis:

When The Partridge Family have a hit record, Keith starts to have unwanted attention of girls from his school, following him around. Keith signs up to auto shop and when the girls overhear that, they sign up for that too. He also has his own cheerleading squad at the basketball game even though he was only sitting on the bench, which annoyed his coach.

Meanwhile Shirley befriends Cathy, a girl who is a huge fan of Keith's. Shirley introduces Cathy to Keith, which is awkward for Keith, making it a funny scene.

On the way to basketball practise, Keith is chased by a group of girls, so he dashes into the nearest shop to hide from them. Janet works in the boutique he has gone into and he thinks she will go crazy over him as well, but the opposite happens where she doesn't recognise him and doesn't react to him. Keith asks her out because of her indifference to him, but she turns him down.

When Keith tells Shirley that he met a girl who doesn't like him, Shirley's advice is to try and forget about this girl if she is not interested, but he says he can't because he thinks he's in love with her.

Keith keeps going to Janet's store but she keeps avoiding him. Danny offers to help Keith with Janet, but Keith turns him down. Danny goes to the store anyway and starts telling Janet positive things about Keith Partridge. When Janet realises Danny is Keith's brother, she kicks him out of the store.

Keith, in disguise, walks up to Janet in the park and asks outright why she won't go out with him. Janet says she won't go out with him because she hates show-business people. He gets offended that she calls his family strange and different. He persuades her to have dinner at his house to see how normal his family is.

Keith instructs Shirley that the family are not talk about concerts and touring at dinner because he wants to prove to Janet that they are a normal family. Shirley tells him that there could be a problem with the conversation at dinner because Cathy is invited. Keith intends to tell Cathy not to come, but sees how hurt she is, he changes his mind and tells her to come later in the evening.

After thinking about the situation, he realises relationships should only be between two people who both like each other. He then changes his mind and stops trying to make Janet like him.

Laurie tells Keith that the boyfriends of the group of girls that followed him have turned up at the house, which causes Keith to dash out the back door and leave until they have gone.

In the end the attention on Keith dies down and the girls stop following him, which Keith kind of misses.
