The Partridge Family - Season 2, Episode 10 (35)

Title: The Forty-Year Itch

First aired: November 19, 1971

Synopsis:

Shirley’s father, Fred Renfrew, appears at the Partridges’ house at 1 am, with a great backpack. He announces that he’s left home and split with his wife, Shirley’s mother, Amanda. He wants to be free and feel young, and plans to stay a night at their house before going for Big Sur. He says that grandma is and behaves like an old person and he can't stand it.

This is not the first time that Shirley’s parents have marital problems, and Shirley has had enough of it. But minutes later, it’s worse than usual, because her mother shows up and says she ran away from home.

The parents stay with Shirley and kids. The situation is not easy for anyone because grandpa wants to be friends with Keith and Laurie’s friends and Grandma interferes with the family’s home life. It’s also hard because the parents don’t talk to each other.

The Partridge Family have a concert date, but they can’t leave before their grandparents make up. Just to make them stay in the same room is difficult so Shirley, the kids and Reuben meet at the cellar to talk and find a plan on how to solve the situation.

It’s obvious that Fred is not very keen on going to Big Sur after all, so a plan is set for grandparent’s reconciliation, but it backfired. Grandpa leaves the house very early on the morning of the concert to hitchhike to Big Sur on his own. Shirley, the kids, Reuben and grandma go after him in the Partridge Family’s bus. They find him rather quickly, very tired and lying by the road.

Reuben manages to bring both Fred and Amanda to The Partridge Family’s concert in the evening. Shirley dedicates a song to her parents, and they start dancing together.
