The Partridge Family - Season 2, Episode 6 (31)

Title: Whatever Happened to Moby Dick?

First aired: October 22, 1971

Synopsis:

Shirley and Keith are woken up at 5am by a noise. They think it's someone who's broken into their house. They realise the noise is coming from the garage, they both go and face the prowler together and find out it’s Danny playing a record of whale sounds with the volume up very loud.

Danny has an idea to have a whale sing on a Partridge Family record to make a million dollars. Everyone is against Danny's idea especially Laurie who loves animals and feels if they make money from the whale recording it would be exploiting it, especially when whales are in trouble.

Danny puts an advert in the paper to find a whale, but other animals turn up including a bear that tap dances. Shirley is annoyed at Danny when he still can't see his idea of making a record with whale sounds is wrong because he is exploiting the whale. The phone rings and it's for Danny telling him they have found a whale.

The Partridge Family go to Marineland and talk to Dr. Whelander who agrees they should make the record to allow people to become aware of the whales becoming extinct and to do something to stop them from being slaughtered. He said Marineland will give any profits to the New York Zoological Society. The Partridge Family also agree to donate their profits too.

The next day The Partridge Family is recording the song, when their session is interrupted by a man called E.J. Flicker who claims the whale belongs to him since he was the one who alerted Marineland four years ago to get the whale out of his inlet. He wants fifty percent of the profits made from The Partridge Family record.

Shirley gets an idea for The Partridge Family to record the record at Marineland and invite the press and Mr. Flicker. She sets it up with Mr. Blanchard of ABC News, and shames Mr. Flicker, in front of thousands of people, into donating his fifty percent to the Zoological Society.
