The Partridge Family - Season 3, Episode 16 (65)

Title: Trial Of Partridge One

First aired: January 19, 1973

Synopsis:
Cindy Brown, the principal of The San Pueblo High’s daughter, is Laurie Partridge's friend. During school break Cindy tells Laurie how much she is afraid of the next day's math test. It’s very difficult for her to meet her father’s expectations and be a very good student. Cindy doesn’t want to be late for her class, and gives Laurie an envelope to put it into the math teacher’s mailbox. But the math teacher, Mr Felcher, takes the envelope from Laurie and tells her that in the envelope there is a stolen copy of the next day's test.

Laurie is uncharacteristically late for the afternoon rehearsals. Shirley and kids see that she is worried about something. After just one song, Shirley orders a break. She wants to know what’s going on and talks with her older daughter. Laurie knows that there is no use hiding the truth and tells her mother everything. Shirley is very worried but understands that Laurie wants to give her friend a chance. She is certain that Cindy will confess it was her who took the test, and everything will be alright.

But the next day at school it turns out everybody knows about Laurie and the stolen test. Some students think Laurie should be expelled from school; some think that she is an innocent victim of society. Cindy tells Laurie that she is too terrified to confess. The situation becomes harder for Laurie when the student body issues a summons for her to appear in the student’s court of ‘examination dishonesty’. The trail will be the same week, on Thursday.

Shirley tells Laurie that she will give her time to explain the situation but after Thursday she will go to the principal herself as Laurie risks a lot for her cheating friend.

Keith feels very protective, worries about Laurie and he wants to be her sister’s defence counsel. Laurie is very touched by his concern and agrees. Keith and Danny (who helps him) try to get Laurie to tell them who stole the test. But Laurie doesn’t want to betray Cindy. Shirley advises Keith and Danny to talk to Laurie's girlfriends, but Keith and Danny can’t find any witnesses or to get to know the thief’s name.

Shirley has to intervene and meets with the principal, Cindy’s father. She tells Mr Brown that maybe he puts too much stress on Cindy, and during their conversation Mr Brown realizes that his daughter stole the test and Laurie is protecting her friend. Mr Brown and Shirley go to the student's court together. Keith tries his best, even calls Laurie as a witness but she can’t say who stole the test. At last, very touched, Cindy tells the truth.

Mr Brown and Cindy thank Laurie for her friendship and loyalty, they hope that this lesson will be an opportunity to improve their relationship.
