The Partridge Family – Season 3, Episode 23 (72)

Title: The Selling of the Partridges.

First aired: March 16, 1973

Synopsis:

Laurie arrives home from school, very excited. She was asked by Phyllis Goldberg to be her campaign manager for the Student-Body President of San Pueblo High. Phyllis is very intelligent, interested in politics, and knows the issues facing the school. However, she is a timid girl, shy and not very popular. Laurie thinks that Phyllis is a perfect candidate.

When Keith returns home he is also excited. He announces that he is also running for President, against Phyllis.

Laurie doesn’t think that Keith is a good candidate, of course he is very popular at school but knows nothing about issues and in her opinion the only thing he could do is play the guitar. Keith is very disappointed that Laurie is against him and the atmosphere at home is very tense.

Keith is very sure of himself and believes in his charm and popularity, but after the debate with Phyllis he loses his confidence. Keith is really impressed by Phyllis’ knowledge of the issues. He tells Shirley that he wants to withdraw because, if he wins, he will have no time for homework, music and friends. Shirley can see that Keith is simply afraid of losing and explains to her son that even if he loses it will be a valuable lesson.

During the last debate, Keith asks everybody to vote for Phyllis, she will be the President the school needs.

Laurie waits impatiently for the results. Phyllis comes to the Partridges’ house too and eventually there is a phone call from school. Keith wins. Phyllis congratulates him and tells him that maybe he doesn’t know much, but he is a leader. Keith asks Phyllis to become his adviser.
