The Partridge Family – Season 3, Episode 24 (73)

Title: Diary Of A Mad Millionaire.

First aired: March 23, 1973

Synopsis:

After a concert the family enjoys some free time outdoors. Shirley and the kids play football.

When their manager, Reuben Kincaid, arrives he has a very interesting proposition from a millionaire, Sydney Rose. The man, who’s made millions on Melba toast, is a huge fan of The Partridge Family. He has invited all of them, including Reuben, to his private, isolated resort for a concert and a dinner.

Sydney lives in a huge grand castle and the family enjoys the stay, but it’s very strange to play just for one person. While waiting in the dining room for their host, Shirley, Reuben and the kids talk about what kind of a man the millionaire is and why he lives like a hermit. An old servant listens to their conversation, but when he puts off a mask they discover that he is actually their host in disguise.

Sydney tells them that since he’s become rich he protects his privacy and sees just a few people. It’s a lonely kind of life, without family and friends. He likes Shirley and the kids very much, and invites them to stay much longer, and even wants to give them a lot of money if The Partridge Family decide not to play their next concert at the club. But Shirley says that it’s out of the question, they've signed a contract and fans wait for them. Shirley says that of course Sydney can come too and see them performing.

To their astonishment, in the evening at the club there is only one fan in the audience. This is Sydney in disguise as a hippie. The millionaire has bought a club to watch the show on his own. The family really likes Sydney even if they don’t understand why he is so afraid of people and has been avoiding everyone for 20 years.

Shirley invites him to spend some time with the family in their house. Sydney is very happy until a TV crew appears unexpectedly at The Partridge Family’s house. Even though Sydney is in disguise again, the reporter recognizes him and talks about it on his TV show. Sydney wants to leave but to his astonishment no one any longer is interested in him and there are no expected reporters or any people outside the The Partridge Family’s house.

Sydney finally understands that he has nothing to be afraid of and it is up to him if he wants to finish his isolated life. The next evening at the concert Sydney is in the audience with other fans of The Partridge Family and it’s a wonderful experience to enjoy the concert together. Sydney is very happy and even goes on a date with a very attractive lady.
