The Partridge Family - Season 4, Episode 22 (96)

Title: ... _ _ _ ... (S.O.S.)

First aired: March 23, 1974

Synopsis:

Shirley waits for her kids to leave for school, she wants to have some time for herself. She wants to read the newspaper however she discovers that some articles have been cut out. Danny explains that he’s taken an article because he needs it for school. It’s an article about a navy Captain, Chuck Corwin, who comes to San Pueblo to make a speech. A surprised Shirley tells her kids that she used to know him very well. They were at high school together, and he was her boyfriend.

She shows Keith, Laurie and Danny her yearbook with pictures of her and Chuck. They were very close, but it was a long time ago, and Shirley refuses to make any attempt to meet Chuck again after all those years. However, Laurie thinks that her mother would be happy to see him, so she phones the hotel and invites Chuck for a family dinner. Shirley at first doesn’t like the idea, but she prepares a good dinner and tries to look her best. The captain is handsome and very charming, and the dinner is a great success. He tells the kids some stories from their school years, and it’s obvious that he likes Shirley a lot. Danny is not impressed by the captain, and he is suspicious even more when he sees Chuck kiss Shirley.

To everybody’s surprise Chuck phones the next morning and invites Shirley for a date. When he comes for her that evening, he looks even more handsome in his civil clothes and there is a phone call for him. Keith and Danny eavesdrop on that conversation, and they are sure that the captain is talking about his new love interest in San Francisco and dumping another woman who is ‘too old’. Both are convinced that this old woman is Shirley. They follow Chuck and Shirley on the Partridge Family bus to Muldoon’s Point. Danny wants to warn Shirley about Chuck, but he and Keith have made a mistake, because ‘she’ in nautical language means a ship not a woman and the captain is simply very happy about his new ship.

Danny is really sorry and doesn’t understand why he’s behaved that way. Keith explains to his younger brother that it’s normal what he feels, he is simply jealous about their mother, he doesn’t want to lose ‘his girl’. Shirley tells Danny that one day she will feel the same way when Danny has a girlfriend.
