Angel In Harlem

After finishing second in her last three races, ANGEL IN HARLEM, finally made it to the winner's circle by defeating state-bred maiden fillies and mares over the turf. Owned by the partnership of David Cassidy and Edward Lipton and trained by Gary Contessa, the four- year-old dark bay filly didn't make it to the races until this season, however she's made her presence known in each of her four-career races. Angel in Harlem broke from the 8-post-position in the 10-horse field, which raced over Belmont Park's Widener turf course, listed "good", at a mile. Ridden by Edgar Prado, Angel in Harlem went to the post as the even-money favorite.

Classic Marilyn was sent to the front soon after the break with Rototiller forcing the pace on the outside and Angel in Harlem stalking in third-position. Never taking back, Classic Marilyn reached the half-mile pole in a quick 46.3 seconds but was overtaken by Angel in Harlem nearing the three-quarter pole. Under a drive, Angel in Harlem raced to the wire to win by 1-3/4-lengths crossing the wire. Land of Dreams closed from sixth at the head of the stretch to finish second by a neck over a tiring Classic Marilyn. Final time was 1:37 seconds flat.

Bred by David Cassidy, who starred in the television series the Partridge Family, qualified for a $2,520 breeder award. Mr. Cassidy was, also, a recording star, touring the world while still in his 20's, however always found time for his passion - the Thoroughbred industry. Mr. Cassidy revealed that while on the "set" other actors would be rehearsing their lines while he could be found reading the "Form".

Angel in Harlem is by General Meeting, out of Princess Caveat, by Caveat and has now banked $50,200 in four-career races. The stakes winning dam earned $208,709 and was 1-2 in 9 out of her 21-lifetime starts
