Equity Files NLRB Charge

Actors' Equity Association reported Tuesday that it has filed an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board against The Supper Club, located in the heart of the Broadway theatre district, because its owner allegedly banned David Cassidy's The Rat Pack Is Back! and replaced it with a similar nonunion show.

The union has accused The Supper Club of "discrimination, and coercive tactics, against actors who are represented by Equity." The venue "refused to allow... The Rat Pack Is Back! to continue performances because members of the cast were represented by the union" and replaced the show with Frank, Dean & Sammy: Live In Concert, a nonunion production, according to an Equity press release.

A new revue titled Frank and Friends is scheduled to open at the Supper Club on Jan. 27, according to a casting notice filed with Back Stage. At press time, Equity said it had no information on that show. Also at press time, The Supper Club owner Martin Thesing issued a brief statement saying, "The Supper Club is a completely nonunion house and therefore never had any contracts whatsoever with any of the actors in The Rat Pack Is Back!" He suggested any questions be directed to Cassidy's production company, RPIB, Inc.
