David Cassidy, 1970s Partridge Family heartthrob, performs at the Weinberg Center for the Arts on Friday night.

FREDERICK -- Although the temperatures dipped into the low 30s, making fans waiting outside a bit antsy, a famous singer asked them later to "C'mon get happy" after he took the stage.

And boy did they ever.

The audience members, mainly women, jumped to their feet, violently clapped their hands and screamed like little girls when '70s teen heartthrob David Cassidy took the stage at the Weinberg Center for the Arts on Friday night.

The actor/musician is best known for his role as Keith Partridge on "The Partridge Family," which ran from 1970 to 1974.

Before the doors opened, several fans waited outside, including a group of mostly women that flew all the way from Europe.

Christine Power of Manchester, England, Jane and Glen Chavnock of Birmingham, England, Gail Baker of Bristol, England, and Sheila Cash of Scotland, met up with Diana Paris of Nevada for the show. Mr. Cassidy even acknowledged the European fans at the start of his concert.

The group has seen hundreds of his shows and travels all over the world to see him, Ms. Baker said. They have all met other fans through the years and became friends. When Mr. Cassidy tours in England, their American fan friends stay with them and vice-versa. The group came to the show dressed in formal evening wear.

"We just have a big girlie weekend," Ms. Baker said.

Mr. Cassidy plays in Connecticut today and the group is flying up there to see him again, Ms. Baker said.

"(His shows) get you away from every day life and every show is different," she said.

Sheila Brown of Newcastle, England, had a second-row seat and was thrilled to be seeing Mr. Cassidy again.

"I love him because he takes me back to my teenage years," she said.

Patricia Hutchison of Washington was the first in line to see the show -- it was her first time seeing Mr. Cassidy.

"I love the '70s and he's a big part of that," she said.

Drew Losiewicz II, 13, of Myersville sat with his dad, Drew Losiewicz, in the front row. They won tickets from WFMD after Mr. Losiewicz correctly answered a question about Mr. Cassidy. Drew said he would be telling his friends at school that he got to go to a concert and sit in the front row.

The 13-year-old had to strain to see Mr. Cassidy after he came out on stage -- even though he was right in front. A group of perfume-laced women ranging in age from their mid-30s to 50s stormed the front of the stage to see their idol up close and personal.

As Mr. Cassidy played, the women danced and sang along to songs like "I Think I Love You," "Cherish" and "Hush." Any time he approached one of them, they squealed.

Mr. Cassidy played a 50-minute set followed by an intermission and another 50-minute set.
