BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) Remember when a party night in Western New York included donning your platform shoes, polyster, or shiny gold and silver dress? Those outfits and more were the call of the night as Conesus Fest for Charity, Inc. celebrated the 18th anniversary of "The World's Largest Disco" presented by Fallsview Casino Resort, Niagara Falls, Canada.

The Buffalo Niagara Convention Center was transformed into the biggest disco dance hall in the world Saturday night. The event is organized by David Piotrowski.

The very first "World's Largest Disco" was held at the Buffalo Convention Center in 1978, and it was co-sponsored back then by WKBW-TV. However it was Piotrowski who re-invented it, brought in celebrity guests, created national media buzz, and donated proceeds to charity.

All proceeds of this event are donated to Camp Good Days & Special Times, a camp for children with cancer. To date, over $2.5 Million has been donated to Camp and other local cancer-related charities.

David Cassidy was the headlining celebrity for the Disco this year. Cassidy is best known for his starring role in the ABC-TV hit "The Partridge Family," and for a successful career as a singer and actor.

In addition to Cassidy, another television celebrity from the 70's was in attendance..."Promo The Robot!" Promo was seen every weekday morning at 7am with Dave Thomas on "Rocketship 7." Dave and Promo showed cartoons, delivered the weather, featured guests, and captured the hearts of WNY children from the start of the show in 1964 until it went off the air in 1978.

"Promo" had some help from Marty Biniasz, and Steve Cichon with the Buffalo Broadcasters Association, along with John Di Sciullo from WKBW.

The party sold out in 6 hours during a pre-sale on August 8th (that's record time)!

The Disco has been featured on "Good Morning America," VH-1's "Where Are They Now," The Travel Channel's "Secrets," "CBS This Morning," the "Washington Post," the front page of "The Wall Street Journal" and is listed as one of the top events in the U.S. in a recently released book entitled "Party Across America."
