Icon Ike Wins Again at Fair Grounds in Wednesday Feature

NEW ORLEANS – Fletcher and Carolyn Gray's Icon Ike won for the second straight time over Fair Grounds' Stall-Wilson turf course this season when he captured Wednesday's featured $49,000 allowance/optional $50,000 claiming grass dash at about 5 1/2-furlongs.

Trained by Larry Jones and ridden by Rosie Napravnik, Icon Ike rallied boldly during a rough stretch run to edge David Cassidy's Thunder Harbor at the wire.

Icon Ike, who broke his maiden over the local lawn in his previous start Dec. 9, toured the distance Wednesday over firm going in 1:04.96 and returned mutuels of $8.60, $4.40 and $2.40 while increasing his lifetime earnings to $58,288 with his second win in five career outings.

Thunder Harbor, who pressed the pace most of the way, could not withstand the winner but finished 1 1/4- lengths in front of Gary and Mary West's Pacific Nights. The runner-up paid $6.60 and $5.60 while the third-place finisher returned $2.40 to show.

John Kuehl and Mark Dedomenico's Truthorfiction made the pace with splits of 22.91 and 58.73 before weakening.

Racing resumes Thursday at Fair Grounds with a 10-race program beginning at 12:40 p.m.
