Recently, we had the privilege of catching up with Katie Cassidy, who plays Laurel Lance — aka the Black Canary — in The CW's popular TV Series "Arrow." In our exclusive interview, Cassidy discusses her acting roots, past roles and her plans for the future.

1. When did you start acting?

When I was in my mother's womb. Ha! Seriously though, I've always had a passion for the art. I began studying acting at the age of 8. I was in theater all through grade school and finally started working as a professional at the age of 18.

2. You come from a family of actors. How much did that influence your decision to become one?

My grandfather, Jack Cassidy, was a phenomenal actor. Followed by my uncles Shaun, Patrick & Ryan, as well as my biological father, David. I'm a third generation actor, so I suppose having a family of actors was destined to influence me in some way. I don't feel like I consciously made the choice. I guess you can say it's in the gene pool.

3. How did previous roles on The CW prepare you to play a character like Laurel?

I think the diversity of all characters I've portrayed served as ample preparation for such an emotionally complex character. That, and studying acting for almost my entire life has been extremely beneficial. It's something that I will never stop. I believe that you can never learn too much.

4. Out of almost everyone in Team Arrow, Laurel is the least experienced. Besides physical training, what are some things she's had to learn about being a crime fighter?

Laurel has the drive and the ambition of a fighter but you're right, she does lack skill. At one point she doubts herself and realizes that she may never be as good as her sister. Felicity reminds Laurel that she isn't just doing this for Sara, but she's doing this for what she truly believes in - for the good of Starling City. Laurel is also learning that getting knocked down just builds character and only makes her stronger. She has no fear and will do whatever it takes.

5. What are some relationships that you would like to see "Arrow" further explore?

There are so many things that we could explore on Arrow! Our writers and producers are brilliant when it comes to exploring new facets of the characters relationships. I hadn't worked much with Emily, David Ramsey or John Barrowman until this season. It has been a dream, so I am excited for the opportunity to work with them more. They are wonderful actors and so fun to be around. I'm also looking forward to working with Katrina Law more. That girl is one amazing woman and brilliant actor. She's killing it.

6. What's next for Katie Cassidy? What sort of roles do you want in the future?

At this point, I'm open to anything. I would love a bad ass action film or a heavy role in a dramatic film. Really anything that I am inspired by. I have also studied comedy for many years, so I think it could be kind of fun to shake things up and do something a little silly. Who knows, the world is my oyster!

Fans can see Cassidy at work next when episode 19 of "Arrow" season three airs Wednesday, April 15, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
