Mike Melvoin

Michael Melvoin (May 10, 1937- Feb 22, 2012)

I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of Mike Melvoin last week. I have lost a friend and a long time musical partner.

I first met Mike when he was part of the Wrecking Crew and we were working on the first Partridge Family album. More recently Mike wrote the score for the movie ‘The David Cassidy Story’ and he was a co-producer on ‘A Touch of Blue’.

Mike was a very gifted musician. His musical legacy lives on in his recordings, writing and in his talented daughters Wendy and Susannah.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

David, I’m so very sorry to hear about Mike’s passing. Losing a good friend is never easy. And, today, you’ve lost yet another friend, Davy Jones :(

Indeed, they both leave a living legacy behind them.

Loss and grief touches us all, unfortunately. I hope you’ll talk through these losses with your friends and family. Nothing like a support network to help us get through such very tough blows.

You and their families have my sincere condolences.

It is so sad that so many exellente musicians die now, first Whitney, then Mike and yet Davy Jones and only with 66! Besides, you stood the last year In summer still with each other on the stage! But in your heart they stay forever and the good memories you had with the both!
Take care well on yourself David, you are loved and needed so much! Hopefully you become more than 100!
I wish you a lot of strength to take this double loss of 2 good friends well!
From the heart of all love and a very warm, comforting virtual hug,

Dear David: (1) I was a Partridge Family fan since I was 14. I was a Monkees fan since age 10 I am shocked and saddened by Davy Jones’s death. It is all I could think of today, almost. When you think of someone to replace Davy on April 14th, could you make any of the surviving Monkees top priority? You were supposed to do the show with Davy Jones, and your audience will know that. As much as they are looking forward to seeing you, they wanted to also see Davy. The next best thing would be Micky Dolenz , Peter Tork , or even Mike Nesmith.. If that doesn’t work out we can go down the list of entertainers from the 60s and 70s to perform with you.

#2. Dear David, I have been looking for years to thank you for inspiring me to become a writer. I wrote a book called Overcoming Celebrity Obsession. I don’t think I could have done it without you. I was having issues in my real life and I thought I needed to look into my former celebrity obsession. If I still seem celebrity obsessed, I used to be a lot worse. Overcoming Celebrity Obsession, deals with whole fan and not the just the celebrity obsession. Take Care, Diane

The past few days have brought us such sad news. First Mike Melvoin, now Davy Jones.
For us it is a loss of music. For you David, loss of long friendship and working partners. I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and the Jones and Melvoin families. May you stay healthy and strong in this sad time, and not forget your value to us and your family.

Coincidentally, I was just listening to Touch of Blue the other day, and so admired it’s lack of pretention and good solid production. A method of simplicity and grace sorely lost in an era where production means manipulating vocals to the point of reducing singers to sound mannequins . Mr. Melvoin’s talent will certainly be missed.

It seems as though this has been a particularly hard few weeks for everyone for one reason or another. In my area, we have a little 20-month-old little girl that has been missing since before Christmas, so heartbreaking. There are children killing and wounding other children in another state. Beloved friends and family dying. We all need to hold our loved ones closer and be thankful for what we have.

David, I’m very glad we have this site where we can hear from you and also get to visit and share a memory or a laugh with others. Take care, we love you!

I bet it will be one heart felt concert. Its hard on the fans who grew up on any kind of music especially throughout the 50’s, 60’s and the 70’s which paved the way for alot of artists of today. Losing a talent,so young.I’m still in shock. Artists like yourself and Davy ,brought us so much joy and happiness back then, no matter what the state of the world was in.It made us forget,if only for a moment. Great music ages well like the muisc from the MONKEES .Davy’s cameo on the BRADY BUNCH left an impression. Just as the Partridge Family and your solo music had done.It still holds up well today. R.I.P Davy. You should know we’ll miss you, man!!!!!
