2021 Calendar

Hello to David Cassidy’s fans around the world! This is ‘Magazine’ Carmen. Many of you come to David’s official website and official Facebook page for continued enjoyment and detailed exploration of his incredible career, courtesy of Jane’s enormous and dedicated efforts. Since January 2018, Jane has made the sharing of my extensive magazine collection possible. I thank her with all my heart, as I could not do this without her help. Her passion, loyalty and dedication to David Cassidy’s legacy have been phenomenal and ongoing for many years! David was very wise to choose her as the Gate Keeper of his official website and Facebook page. Thanks to Jane, we have two special places to share our love and appreciation for David and to give Jane additional material to upload and add to this ever growing and wonderful David Cassidy data base! With her continued support, much more is yet to come in magazine scans as we have yet to start the year 1973!

This message is about a special endeavor to honor David and his legacy as an actor and recording artist, his love of horses and the special charity he supported, and the need among his many fans to have a beautiful calendar of him. I searched in late 2017 for a David Cassidy calendar and could not find one. I particularly wanted one endorsed by his Estate, rather than something created without his family’s awareness or permission. David was exploited considerably in his life, particularly in his early career, and I did not want to be a part of that after he died. At the same time, I wanted a beautiful calendar featuring his handsome yet beautiful face!

In late 2018, I made a personal David Cassidy calendar using some of the photos and magazines in my collection. The end result was so beautiful that I wanted to find a way to share such a calendar with other DC fans. Key issues to address were: 1) It had to be permitted by David Cassidy’s Estate. 2) It had to be permitted on eBay. 3) 50% of the proceeds would benefit David’s favorite charity pertaining to horses: The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. 4) I would do research on copyright laws.

Ryan Cassidy, whom I’ve befriended through our mutual careers in the motion picture industry (we met at Western Costume Company, where I have worked since June 2000), has given me his full and enthusiastic support for this charity calendar project, as has the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation! I have bought fifty calendars in bulk, using my credit card and spending $700.00, to get the best price possible. They will be sold on eBay for $29.99 plus shipping and handling. When a calendar is bought, I get some of that money back. For every calendar sold, $7.00 will go to the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, and $7.00 goes towards packaging materials, my labor and time, and eBay seller fees. This is a labor of love, but I cannot bear the costs alone.

I want to close by sharing something personal about myself that I feel it’s time to share with you. I know that by posting it online, it means giving up some of my privacy, but this involves David’s Love and Light.

In June 2017, I was diagnosed with Stage I breast cancer. There is no way to describe the range and depth of thoughts and feelings after receiving a cancer diagnosis. My personal breast cancer journey involved alternative, integrative and traditional treatments for the disease. While I was unable to avoid surgery, I did learn invaluable lessons about the body’s immune system, nutrition, cancer prevention and what good health feels like. I spent a year detoxing and preparing my body and mind for what I wanted desperately to avoid: Surgery. I had a mastectomy on August 7, 2018. The time and effort was worth it, as the surgery and my recovery could not have been smoother. Scanning magazines and watching “The Partridge Family” and listening to David’s music has helped me enormously! You have been a part of my healing process, and I thank you.

I don’t ever want David’s fans to feel that he’s once again being exploited, nor do I want any of you to feel taken advantage of. This calendar project benefits a favorite charity of David’s, supports his legacy as an entertainer and animal lover, and it’s supported by his brother, Ryan Cassidy, and Chelsea O’Reilly, the Program Development Manager of TRF. Once all fifty calendars have sold, I will cut a cashiers check to TRF and share the confirmation of receipt letter from TRF with Jane to share with you. If there is enough demand, I will order another set of fifty calendars and repeat the process of donations to TRF.
