  1. Thank you very much for posting this event .I have enjoyed listening to hearing David’s closest friends speaking of him so fondly .and the love David had for all animals even a parrot that had the run of his house and sat on Gary Contessa’s head when he went around to visit .and the love he had for his dogs and horses .such lovely amazing stories .David cared so much for animals ,he was a very caring man .

  2. I watched this live and it was wonderful. Especially loved when Sam spoke emotionally about when David was playing Madison Square Garden and he was sitting next to David’s mother and turned and said to her, “That’s your baby up there.” Just came alive for me.

When I see photos of David with his various animals, I feel like his body language and expression displays a pure and deep love for these creatures. I feel like you also see that with pictures of him with his mother and son. But I didn’t know him so I could be way off on that assessment. Just an observation.

I have a random question, on David’s album and he’s singing Bali Ha’i — is he playing the ukulele or is someone else? Wish there was a video of him performing this song.

    • Hi Betsy,
I have the album this song was on. The ukulele was played by Al Casey. Every song has the players on it plus David wrote personal notes about each song. He said that he remembers his father singing “Bali Ha’i” in the bath so he thought he should record it.
