David’s Star – on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars

From Johnny Ray Miller:

David Cassidy will be receiving a star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars for his outstanding work on the stage, and with great shock and excitement I have been invited to be a keynote speaker. I can’t tell you how humbled and proud I am to be part of this extraordinary event.

David broke records in the late 90’s for his lead role in the spectacular musical,” EFX.”  It was a box office smash for several years in a row at the MGM Grand. David won several awards during his run in Vegas including Entertainer of The Year. “EFX” led to other successful Vegas productions including “At The Copa,” which he co-starred in next to Sheena Easton. He also wrote the musical “The Rat Pack is Back,” and made occasional appearances in it.

David’s star will be placed outside of the Paris Hotel among the likes of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Donny & Marie Osmond. I am thrilled to see David Cassidy getting the musical credibility he always deserved.  The ceremony was originally planned for April 8 and 9 and quickly postponed due to the pandemic. When the time comes that our world begins to open up again, we can all look forward to this exciting celebration.

  3. Congratulations Johnny, David really deserves this star and certainly deserves to be amongst Elvis and Frank Sinatra etc, David always gave his all whatever he was involoved in, hopefully the wonderful celebrations for the star will take place as soon as they can in the current situation. Stay safe everyone

  4. This is wonderful David was an amazing talent and richly deserved this honor. I am sure he is up in Heaven SMILING.

  5. I am very happy to hear this good news. To you Johnny Ray Miller thank you, and you will excel as the keynote speaker, David Cassidy will have his star in Las Vegas and it will shine, David maybe be so bright you will see it up there. David Cassidy Legacy is here to stay and each fan is a tribute. Love to David’s family.

  6. it is lovely david is finally getting his star, but sad it was not received 10 years ago when he was on stage in las vegas, and to be able to receive it whilst his was still alive.

  7. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame should also bestowed on David too, what talent he had, THE biggest fan club in the world selling millions of records. That alone should be enough.

    • I agree John, he should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. There some artists in there that haven’t done half the amount that David did ovet the years and yet they are in there, something is very wrong with the process of someone getting in there.

  8. I agree John. I know us fans are committed to David Cassidy Legacy. And our love for David, with that said, we will never give up. Rock n Roll hall of fame, please induct David Cassidy he was a musical artist, singer songwriter, musician and a world Icon. A voice so loved. We must believe one day this will happen. John stay safe.

  9. Am so happy that David will finally receive his star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars. It’s just a shame that he is not here to know about and be involved in it. He deserves this so much and so much more, e.g. being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which I still hope will come to fruition in the future. I can’t think of another performer who gave more than David in his performances. Congratulations David and sending much love to you. From Sandra, Sydney, Australia.

  10. I also agree with John ,that David should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame too. I did write to them a couple of years ago stating all the many reasons why he so deserved this .David was such a great singer ,and could sing so many different kind of songs and so many great albums .especially Cassidy Live Album ,with songs like Delta Lady ,CC Rider .we fans want this so much for such a talented man we all love so much .

    • Claudette, l agree with you 100% and more, please read my review on ‘Casssidy Live’ on Amazon.uk, it might please you.It was some years ago that l posted the review but that album, phew! It just gets better. Coincidently a ‘closet’ fan asked me to recommend some of David’s songs after he’d watched ‘ The Last sessions’ recently ‘Live and ‘Home is ..’ I said, his response was that David could have fronted ANY band in the world and he’s a massive Eagles fan, enough said, all the best Claudette.

  11. Great review John ,I feel too David deserved more recognition ,maybe having been a former teen idol did make an impact but for David it was always about the work he always wanted to be taken seriously .all the best John stay safe.

  12. I believe its time that the two gentlemen that should be seriously consider to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame because of there impact they made on music in the 70’s are David Cassidy and Barry Manilow. Respectfully, Jimmy Pearl from Bayonne, New Jersey

    • “We’re still here, it’s just that we’re out of sight
Like those ships that pass in the night”

(“Ships” sung by Barry Manilow; written by Ian Hunter)

  13. yes its about time david will finally have his star and yes david needs to be inducted inthe rock and roll hall of fame…….to james i double agree both david and the very talented barry manilow should be both inducted……the best of singers best of the 70s compared to todays well the last 30 something years of crap rap hiphop heavy metal junk…lets keep our fingers crossed…..

  14. With respect to Jimmy Pearl and Richards comments l can’t stand Manilows inferior version of ‘ l write the songs’ it was hastily recorded by Manilow on the orders of record company owner Clive Davis knowing it would be a massive hit for David in the US, so thwarting David of new success there before it was released. Manilow never even charted in the UK with it yet people identify him to it rather than the man. Don’t like that.
I also once heard a radio interview with Ken Bruce BBC2 interviewing Bette Midler a friend of Manilows. Bette said Barry phoned her and asked her to come around and listen to a new song he’d written called ‘ l write the songs’ haaaaaa, didn’t like that neither .
It is my favourite DAVID CASSIDY song ,the definitive.

    • John I understand your point of view and duly noted, but music should never be about competition. I saw David’s rendition of “I write the Songs” and your right it was excellent but so was Barry’s and that only makes more eye’s and ear’s pay attention to a great song and what could be possibly wrong with that. Bruce Springsteen once said”Remember in the end, Nobody Wins unless Everybody Wins” so with that in mind why don’t we put two great performer’s and ultimate showmen’s into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame together at the same time and that would show the true spirit and power and most of all magic of Music. David Cassidy and Barry Manilow collaboration of the song “We write the Songs” Respectfully, Jim Pearl

      • Hi Jim, with respect , it isn’t about competion it’s about comparison and opinion and comparing Manilows version to ‘our’ David’s bewilders me as Manilows doesn’t even come close?
l don’t begrudge Manilow his place in the RRHF a great showman, but the collaboration ,no thanks it’s David Cassidy’s song forever.
        Best wishes Jim.

    • I agree with you John, cannot stand Manilow’s version or him to be honest. He certainly didn’t write it, it was Bruce Johnston that wrote “I Write The Songs”. David sings this song with so much emotion and makes it his song.

      • And Captain & Tenile recorded it first Doreen as you may well know and that was awful too, even the writer Bruce Johnstons version isn’t good. David Cassidy made this song what it is, his, Manilow copied,
        Cheers Doreen.

  15. Yes..the magic of Music..of course music should never be about competition.Barry M. is a great artist that’s out of the question…but David Cassidy’s “I Write the Songs” is so special..If I had to choose only one of his songs..it would be this one..He made this song his own..his interpretation is so personal..he has his own place in my soul…
    Stay safe everyone

  16. Because recently Ive had some extra time (like all of us) I wrote (for myself and some friends) DC’s discography..all his albums, with TPF and solo. Every details , also about people he worked with and people who wrote or co-wrote music with him. So many of them are not among us..I listened to all those songs again..Even discovered some Ive never heard – “It’s a Long Way to Heaven” and some from The Remix (btw what a fun this album is) Ive rediscovered some – eg “Whatever Happened To..” And while reading reviews I was also listening to original versions of the songs which DC recorded..And I can say that he nearly always made sth new..sth very personal with those songs…like one critic wrote ‘he is smart enough to look for the meaning in a song and interpret them through his experiences. All great interpreters from Sinatra to Presley do it “(Stephen Porter)..So true…I’ve beeen trying to be objective (it wasn’t easy, I’m a fan..).. I prefer DC’s versions…maybe I’m not a fan of “Walk Away Renee’..and The Young Rascals ‘How Can I Be Sure’ original it’s very moving but it’s a completely different song..The Young Rascals were inducted into Rock&Roll Hall of Fame in 1997….and David..it’s so unfair..

  17. I agree with you weronika ,David Cassidy ” I write the songs” is so special, the way he sings this song with so much feeling and emotion and as always such a great voice .for me it will always be David Cassidy, he was so talented he could sing any type of song and make it sound great .songs like C.C. Rider ,Rock Medley to something so different such as “songs my father taught me.” I listen to his music every day his memory will live on through his music and fans .

  18. I love David Cassidy singing I write the songs. With music unfortunately, does get passed around. To bad that during that time David didn’t get all the credit. David just wanted to keep singing for us and each song to a David Cassidy fan was the best. He just sang so perfect with his royal voice. The Rock n Roll hall of fame is awesome, but it is missing David Cassidy. And Barry Manalow to was a awesome singer who had his own incredible voice. And yes he deserves to be inducted. But first I want David Cassidy to be honored. David got jipped , on credit due to him. No one can take David’s fans. We’re here, dedicated, and we the fans will never give up on David Cassidy Legacy. Wishing everyone the best during this terrible time.

  19. Hi Sian, thank you for the nice comment. I did give your message to Felicia. Your posts I like reading. Sian ,it’s crazy to look back when there was no technology, I never imagined that one day, all of us David Cassidy fans would be able to connect and share are thoughts on David. This website is so special.

    • Yes, it is special. Very special. It’s nice to know there are some silent fans who probably get some comfort from it, too. I would be interested to know how your lockdown measures are? I moved just before the pandemic got a grip on the UK… just in time. Some were not so lucky. Some people are trapped with scary people. I hope good sense prevails as swiftly as possible… to help us all. Siân x

  20. Hi Sian, some measures are slowly lifting. Each state is different. Best to wear a mask, and be careful. Our stores for awhile were low on items. Very sad for the lives lost. Did you live in England if I recall? I watch this show called Dabl, other is Create, show alot different places, I love your towns, and country sides, and homes. Well your way over there, and I’m way over here. Does not matter, where we live, we are David Cassidy, fans, and now friends. Jane to you thank you for still being here for us fans, and what a remarkable job you have done here, with all David Cassidy did in his life and career, and you have organized right here on David’s website, for us to Cherish. All fans stay safe and well, and have a great memorial day weekend.

    • I’m still in the UK but won’t say where I am. My neighbour used to stalk me. I got away and the timing was lucky. Lockdown has its advantages!!! Yes, there are some lovely places; probably in most countries… I hope a vaccine can be found. I remembered: Is your horse still in the land of the living? I hope so. Take care, Denice. Siân x

  21. Hi Sian, wishing you happiness after what you went through. Thanks for asking, I just saw Wilbur today. I got him when he was four, now he’s going on 30. He is alot of fun, and he has a personality that is unique, that he wants to be right there in the moment. He understands me, and in the beginning I took a risk getting him, I didn’t know how it would all turn out. Horses are very smart, and I can see why David got involved, and David really was a voice to save retired race horses. Mine is not a race horse, but I’m glad I gave him a chance to a good life. I went from knowing nothing about horses to knowing alot and I hope to learn more. And life is taking risks and not being afraid.

    • Well, I’m a horse lover, too. Well done, Wilbur!!! Thanks, Denice. I think some of our pets know there’s something odd going on… Siân x

  22. After more than 2 months I’ve got my ‘Cherish” copy today. The book edited by Louise Poynton..And it’s edited with love. Beautiful book, great quality..of everything..paper, print, pics , layout (Im a former bookseller and librarian so I can tell it’s really special)..And its a kind of a book to return to many times..I love how ordinary fans’ stories are mixed with his colleagues and friends’. Every story is important..and all of them show why David Cassidy was and is so loved by many people from very different countries..why he was and still is so important for many from our generation..A true legacy of love. And also what a great title..Cherish…Im so happy that Ive got it at last.

  23. Hi Jane, You deserve to be honored there as well. I have been out of the loop for awhile and I came in and saw the hard work, combined with unconditional love, you continue to pour into this website. Thank you. I still feel bad Jason and I didn’t recognize you back when. I felt like an idiot. Hopefully we will get another chance a this event. Thank you for all you do for David. He is smiling down upon you! God Bless, J & J

  24. I second Jill in honoring Jane’s devotion to the website. Simply put if you look in the dictionary to inquire the true definition of what unconditional love really means their would be a picture of Jane. Jane is the living proof of what Bruce Springsteen states “Nobody Wins unless Everybody Wins”. Thank You Jane and keep up the GREAT Work. Respectfully from Jimmy Pearl of Bayonne, New Jersey in this Great American Land

  25. Thank you so much Jane for all your hard work .we as David’s fans truly appreciate all you do to keep this website going ,so we can come here and remember David. I am sure he would feel the same about the great work you do .hope you are all safe and well .

I hope each and everyone of you is safe from the pandemic and now from the violence going on in so many American cities.
To all, keep safe and healthy.
All the best from the Azores
