David in Sewell, New Jersey

Buttons are coming undone!

February 23, 2007
Commerce Bank Arts Centre. Sewell, NJ

My flight to Philadelphia arrived at 4:30 p.m. and David's show wasn't until 8:00 so I figured I'd have plenty of time. I had directions to Donna's house (you all remember Donna, "dcfanphilly"?) and she's only 6 miles from the airport, so no problem, right?

Never under-estimate my abilities to get lost. I do it so very well. Even though I have been to Donna's house before! Well I had a bit of trouble getting to her house LOL, and I did finally arrive, flew upstairs, changed clothes, and off we were to Sewell. It was only 30 miles, so it should only take a half-hour to get there, right?

After stopping 3 times to ask directions, we did eventually find the place...at 8:01 p.m. we were RUNNING from the car to the show. There happened to be a dance or something going on at the high school next door, so the entire parking lot was full. We ended up parking about 3 blocks away! And it was FREEZING outside. By the time we got into the theatre everybody was already in their seats but the lights had not gone down yet. For once I was GLAD David was starting late.

Our seats were front and center, very middle. The most excellent seats in the house! We only had to wait a few minutes, and then it was time. Band started playing..Terri said those famous words.. "please put your hands together for the one..the only..DAVID CASSIDY!" He looked wonderful, very happy and seemed excited to be there. We were too!!!

Something exciting happened. During Summer Days, David walked right up to me (I was crammed against the stage, as were about 7000 other women), bent down, took my hand, and said HI SWEETIE, WHAT IS YOUR NAME? and put the microphone to my mouth. I said CAROL and he said AND JUST HOW LONG..... .(big pause).....HAVE YOU BEEN LISTENING TO THIS SONG? and then put the microphone back to me, and I said UM, 1970? and he said HMMM, I DIDN'T EVEN RECORD IT UNTIL 1972.....then kissed my hand (that he had been holding while this was going on) and then walked to the other side of the stage.

SIGH........................................................................... :)

During the acoustic guitar set, David sang Ricky's Tune! We hardly ever get to hear that!

David told us he wanted to try a new song, never played it before, and had not rehearsed it with the band. He said he loves to play it on his couch at home so decided to try it in a show. He said he was scared to death that he'd mess it up. Frank said "how do we end it?" and David had to go to each band member and tell them what to do. The song was Crossroads, first put out in the late 60's by Cream and then later by Eric Clapton. It has a lot of guitar jamming, and you know how David loves to do that. Between David and Matt, it sounded wonderful. Matt Sullivan is so awesome and talented.

OK, about the shirt LOL. First David was wearing a white baggy one. The one with the loose button holes. From the very start there was one button undone. Then as he moved about, another, and then another. After awhile they were ALL undone except the very bottom one. I could see his entire chest and even his gall bladder scar. He is skinny! He was trying to talk to a small girl who had run up to the stage, when he noticed that his shirt was all open. He grabbed both sides and held it shut, and said "Did you unbutton my shirt??? And you're like TEN YEARS OLD!!??" and acted like he was appalled that she did that! (she didn't!). So after the brief intermission, he had a different shirt on. It was one of those shiny ones from way back, lime green. Terri laughed at it and told David "wow you're wearing LIME GREEN" and then I think he had second thoughts about wearing it again...he said he couldn't remember where or when he had worn it last, was it the 70's..80's..90's...? Then he said "maybe I need to retire this shirt tonight." I think we all agreed LOL.
